What to do when someone dies overseas:
If someone has died overseas, the death will need to be registered according to the regulations of that country.
You will be issued with a local death certificate which can usually be used in the UK. If it is not in English, you will need to arrange for a certified translation.
You can also register the death with the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office on 020 7008 5000.
You will need to contact an international funeral director based in the UK to organise repatriation of the body, if appropriate. They will be able to inform you about the processes and costs involved in doing so.
